A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
