Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
